Description

Mutianyu ( 慕田峪), part of the Great Wall of China in Huairou County 70 km northeast of central Beijing. It was first built in the mid-6th century during the Northern Qi, making it older than the Badaling section. In 1569, the Mutianyu Great Wall was rebuilt and most parts of it are well preserved.

The wall is mostly composed of granite and is between 7 and 8.5 metres high. The top is 4 to 5 metres wide.

This section of the Great Wall has dense placement of watchtowers, and both outer and inner parapets are crenelated, enabling shots to be fired from both sides, which is a rare feature.
