Outside the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Brasilia, Brazil, designed by Oscar Niemeyer and built in 1970. A 12-meter (39 ft) wide, 40 centimetre (16 in) deep reflective pool of water surrounds the cathedral roof, helping to cool the cathedral. Visitors pass under this pool through a dark tunnel when entering the cathedral and then emerge into a bright space with a glass roof.
