Milky Way over Ireland

Description

Our Solar System, and the individual stars we see at night, are all within the Milky Way galaxy. From February to September, with clear weather and very dark moonless skies, it is possible to see a band of brighter light across the night sky as we look towards the centre of the Milky Way galaxy where stars more concentrated together. Cameras with long exposure times can capture more light than the human eye so makes the sight of the Milky Way truly spectacular.

This experience is a night view of Ross Castle in Killarney, Ireland. The Milky Way spreads all across the sky and fades into Killarney's light pollution. The yellowish core of the galaxy can be seen at the horizon, where the Kerry International Dark-Sky Reserve lies.
