Description

Salar de Uyuni (or Salar de Tunupa) in Bolivia is the world's largest salt flat at over 10,000 square kilometres (4,000 sq mi). It is located high plateau near the crest of the Andes at an elevation of 3,656 meters (11,995 ft) above sea level. This vast area was once a giant prehistoric lake, and today is mined for salt and other minerals and is a breeding ground for South American flamingos.
