Karva Chauth is a Hindu festival in north India, where married women keep a fast from the morning's sunrise to moon rise in the night for good health and long life of their husbands. Today it is thought by many to be a romantic festival to show dedication to a husband as well as a chance to strengthen female friendships through a day spent together, while some are concerned about its one-sided nature with only women fasting for a day.
