Icelandic Geyser

Description

This geyser is known to the locals as 'Strokkur' (meaning 'churn' in Icelandic.) It is one of the best know geysers of its type in Iceland, erupting once every 6-10 minutes. The eruptions usually rise around 20m from the ground, but can reach up to 40m. Geysers are a relatively rare phenomenon, as they require very specific circumstances to create their spectacular hydrothermal explosions. Water seems through the earth to a depth of around 200m where it makes contact with volcanic magma. This causes the water to pressurise and boil, before exploding through the surface vent.

Total video duration is 34 seconds.
