# Learning objectives 1: Understand why the Great Fire of London started{.info} 2: Find out how the great fire affected the people of London {.info} # Life in 17th Century London {.objective .objective1} This section primarily focuses on the events before the Great Fire of London broke out, looking particularly at its densely packed neighbourhoods, narrow streets and wooden housing. The activity in this section asks students to think about the layout of the buildings and how they contributed to the fire spreading # The Great Fire {.objective .objective2} Section two details specifically where and why the fire started - a bakery on Pudding Lane. The students can look at flammable materials stored nearby and flames coming from the bakery. This task asks students to think about how these factors contributed to the fire. # Fire-fighting in 1666 {.objective .objective3} The student activity here looks particularly at the fire fighting equipment in the scene and asks students to think about how effective they would have been. Students will also learn how the fire was eventually stopped by systematically destroying houses using gunpowder. # Changes following the fire {.objective .objective4} The final section details how London changed in the aftermath of the great fire as well as the damage that was caused.
