Resting Hunter
Marble
H. 1.77 m; W. 0.85 m; D. 0.95 m

Sometimes thought to represent Adonis, “Resting Hunter” was originally one of a group of statues illustrating the theme of the hunt, with “Nymph with a Quiver” and “Nymph with a Dove”, and installed in the Horse pond at the foot of the “river” in the park at Marly. Commissioned in 1707 and dated 1710, the group was moved to the Tuileries gardens in 1716.
