In this scene you can explore a construction site and observe a house that is still under construction. Exploring the different parts of the scene you will develop an understanding of the properties of materials to help build better, stronger and more energy efficient places to live.

# Learning objectives

# Properties of Materials{.objective .objective1}

In this section the various materials used to build houses will be outlined and properties will be described. From providing strength and stability, to waterproofing, transparency, flexibility, insulation, conductivity, absorbancy and magnetism, the various properties will be described. Exploring the scene will allow students to identify the materials and discuss the properties and what the materials are used for.

# Building Houses{.objective .objective2}

In this section the materials found on the construction site will be linked to their use when building a house, from glass to plastic, wood and metal. By exploring the scene, students should iderntify which prioperties these materials provide that are useful for building a house. For example, glass is trasnaprant and useful fro making windows, metal provides strength and stability to the building, etc.

# Insulation{.objective .objective3}

In this section, the term insulation will be described, and why it is mportant when building a new house. Preventing heat loss and conserving energy is a major part of building an energy efficient house. Using the right materials will help reduce the heat that escapes from the house. Students should discuss the benefits of insulation, and why a home owner would make sure the house is properlyu insulated.
