Life Cycle of a Plant

by Avantis World
This resource is only available as part of a pack

Description

Welcome to the life cycle of a flowering plant, shown in all its stages at once!

There are two main ways that plants can reproduce; asexual reproduction and sexual reproduction.

Asexual reproduction in plants is where a non-flowering plant can reproduce by itself and the new plants are exact copies of the original. This includes plants like daffodils that produce bulbs or potatoes that make ‘tubers’ that live underground and sprout new potatoes every year.

Sexual reproduction in plants is the process of flowering plants creating new seeds and then spreading them as far away as possible, allowing new plants to appear.

Because this process happens over and over again, it is called a life cycle.

# Learning objectives

1: Be able to describe the life cycle of a plant.{.info}

2: Be able to identify the stages of the life cycle of a plant{.info}

# What Plants Need{.objective .objective1}

In this section, the needs of a plant are outlined. From growth, to reproduction, plants need a source of light and water to generate their own food by photosynthesis. As plants develop, they will produce seeds. To do so pollination needs to take place. This ensures that seeds have a full set of chromosomes for the new plants that germinate.

# The Five Stages{.objective .objective2}

In this section, the life cycle of a pant is described. The five main stages: germination, seedling growth, pollination, fertilisation, seed dispersal are described, and linked in a cycle.
