Head in among the trees and explore the fascinating forest floor area. In forest habitats trees grow close together, and all those thick leaves above you mean that little sunlight reaches the forest floor; it can feel murky and muddy down here! Forests are very similar to woodlands, but generally woodlands are more open, with a bit of space between trees letting light reach down to floor level, leading to more diversity of plants.

# Trees {.objective .objective1}
In this section, different types of trees can be found in the forest. Forests are more often populated by a variety of trees. By exploring the scene, students will describe the appearance of the trees and use it as evidence for the variety that can be found in a forest.
# Dead Wood{.objective .objective2}
In this section there is a definition of decomposition. Exploring the scene, students should observe and identify any dead material, like trees. Evidence should be used to identify decomposers in action, such as fungi growing on the surface of the dead trees.
# Animals{.objective .objective3}
In this section, different animal that live in a forest, including deer, badgers and worms can be identified. These examples typically live in the forest as they are adapted to survive here, particularly due to the food source they can find in the area. By exploring the scene, a discussion should be encouraged to identify the animals and describe how they may be suited for forest life.
