Polar Biome

by Avantis World
This resource is only available as part of a pack

Description

This scene takes the form of a Polar Biome, specifically Antarctica, the largest polar biome in the world covering approximately 14 million square kilometres of the southernmost part of the globe. Despite being largely covered in ice and snow, polar biomes such as Antarctica are dry and cold all year round. They are almost entirely covered by ice, meaning that a very limited number of animals can survive there. Students can explore this scene and make their way across the different pieces of ice to learn about the unique features of a polar landscape. They may even see a polar bear or two!

# Learning objectives

# Features of a Polar Biome{.objective .objective1}

Students will learn that polar biomes are large areas that are largely covered in ice and snow and are dry and cold all year round. In this activity, students are asked to enter the scene to identify the key features of a polar biome and compare how this environment is different to their own.

# Unique Features of Polar Landscapes{.objective .objective2}

In this section students can learn that a polar landscape can look a specific way due to its climate, any environmental growth and the plants it contains. They will be encouraged to explore how the ever-changing environment of a polar biome could affect someone living in a polar biome.
