The Solar System

This scene allows students to fly freely through a recreation of our solar system, complete with all eight planets, the Sun and asteroids. Students are able to fly up and down as well as left and right giving a freedom of exploration. If the scene is launched through a ClassVR headset, landing on a planet will load the surface of that planet allowing students to explore in even more detail.

# Our Solar System{.objective .objective1}

The first section of this scene explains to students what is meant by a solar system and where we fit within it. This section looks at the distances between some of the planets and asks students to try and identify planets they may already recognise.

# The Eight Planets{.objective .objective2}

This section explains to students how each of the planets are different in turn and looks at their order away from the Sun. The activity here asks students to compare what they found out with their predictions from the first section allowing them to review their learning.

# The Sun{.objective .objective3}

The final section of this scene looks specifically at our star and its relevance to our solar system. Here students will look at the concept of stars and their place in the universe. This activity asks students to explore outwards from the sun and look at the orbits of planets, thinking about how their distance from the sun would affect their temperature and the length of their years.
