Description

This scene takes the form of the banks of the Mississippi River, the second largest watershed in the world. The Mississippi covers over 1.2 million square miles with tributary rivers from 33 US states and two Canadian provinces. There are many different habitats along the extensive shores of the Mississippi including prairie, savannah, forests, lakes and wetlands. In this scene you will have the opportunity to explore both broadleaf forests and submerged wetlands. There are many different examples of wetlands all along the Mississippi and these unique environments host many different types of life.

# The Journey of the Mississippi{.objective .objective1}

In this section a description of the Mississippi River will be outlined. Its journey from its source in Minnesota to its delta in Louisiana, students will learn about the Mississippi emerging from lake Itasca and it begins its flow southbound for 2,320 miles (3,730 kilometres), to the Delta on the Gulf of Mexico, passing 10 states.

# Habitats of the Mississippi{.objective .objective2}

In this section a description of the typical habitats will be outlined. As students explore, they will discover and observe a range of habitats, such as forests, savannahs, wetlands and more, that lines the river. Students will explore these examples and learn how they create a range of different conditions that will impact wildlife that lives there.

# Creatures of the Mississippi{.objective .objective3}

In this section, the scene will outline the typical wildlife that can be found roaming the various habitats. From mammals, to birds, reptiles, amphibians and birds, students will learn about the wildlife and how the habitats create an ideal place for them to live. Examples of the animals that live in the area include Canada geese, crocodiles, Golden eagle, ducks, white tailed deer and many more. Students will explore and link different animals to different parts of the river habitats.
