The Moon Landings

This scene takes place on the surface of the moon at the site of the USS moon landings in 1969. From the surface, you can see earth on the horizon as it would have been viewed by Neil Armstrong and buzz Aldrin. There is an accurate recreation of the Apollo landing module and a model of a lunar buggy on the surface. An astronaut can be seen descending the ladder from the module and a recreation of Neil Armstrong's footprint can be seen in the dust.

The scene contains:

- A detailed recreation of the Apollo Lander Module with an astronaut ascending the ladder.
- A Lunar Rover parked nearby.
- A view of the Earth, as it would look from the Moon.

In this section students can learn about the history behind the space race and the Unites States of American eventually landing on the moon and why there was a rivalry between the Unites States and Russia. Students can search for evidence that America eventually won the Space Race.

In this section students can look at how the American astronauts managed to land on the moon’s surface and the science involved in the process. Students can look for evidence of what the astronauts did while on the moon and what stage of the mission the scene is set in.

# 3: Conditions on the Moon{.objective .objective3}

In this section students can learn about the moon’s surface and what it would have been like for the men standing on it, including details about the sea of tranquillity and craters on the moons surface. Students should focus on how the astronauts used a variety of equipment to survive on the moon.
