This scene transports users to four different fictional railroad stations, each marking a different time period through the first 100 years of railroad use in the United States of America. Students can see examples of the locomotives used in different periods in history, and contextual information such as population maps can be found at each site.

# Year 1830 – First Railroads in the USA{.objective .objective1}
In this section students can learn about the first short railroads built in the USA. Students are invited to focus on the Tom Thumb locomotive.
# 1848 to 1865 - Going West, Differences North and South{.objective .objective2}
Students can discover the changes and continuities that existed in this period. In this activity students observe the locomotives from the time and are asked to consider how the rapidly expanding railroad network might have meant disadvantages to areas not yet connected.
# Year 1869 - Connecting a Growing Nation{.objective .objective3}
In this section students can explore the Transcontinental Railroad route. This activity encourages reflection on how the railroad changed the nation towards the America we recognise today.
# Year 1916 - Peak of the Railroad Network{.objective .objective4}
Students will learn the importance of the railroad network during the First World War. Students reflect on the rapid and significant changes that took place in less that 100 years, both for the railroad network and the nation as a whole.
