Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a religious and non-religious holiday celebrated by many people in North America, Canada, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Liberia. It is a national holiday when friends and family come together to spend time with one another, eat a meal together and reflect on the historical significance of Thanksgiving. This scene takes the form of a Puritan Settlement where students can explore how Thanksgiving has changed overtime.

In this section students can learn about the Mayflower journey and how the Puritans sought for a new home in the ‘New World’. In this section students are asked to identify anything in the scene which connotes the Pilgrims religious beliefs

In this section students can learn about how Thanksgiving became a national holiday in the US in 1863. In this section students are asked to identify similarities and differences between the celebration of Thanksgiving in 1621 and 1821.

In this section students can learn about how Thanksgiving is both a religious and secular celebration day and its relevance in the twenty–first century. In this section students are asked to explain why Thanksgiving is still celebrated in the twenty-first century.
