Travel and Tourism – Airports

Description

This scene transports users to an international airport to explore inside and find evidence of its role in the travel and tourism industry. Students can see key features including transport links to the local area, flight information displays, security screening and border control, and passenger lounge with retail and hospitality outlets. Throughout the terminal building students can find posters advertising different types of holidays that tourists might be going on.

# What facilities do you find in an airport?{.objective .objective1}

In this section students can learn about the difference between domestic and international tourism. In this activity students are invited to focus on the different facilities they see as they explore the airport.

# What impact does an airport have on the local area?{.objective .objective2}

In this section a description is given of the various impacts that airports have on their local area. In this activity students look for how the airport connects to the region with transport links, and consider how the airport impacts locally.

# Where might people be traveling to from this airport?{.objective .objective3}

A description is given of different types of holidays that tourists can take. Students are asked to explore the terminal building looking for evidence of different types of holidays.

# What negative impacts do we associate with international tourism?{.objective .objective4}

Students can reflect on the negative impacts of tourism and consider how some of these might be mitigated in different ways, including dealing with the impact of emissions generated by aviation on climate change.
