The scene lets students explore the world of birds and observe the characteristics unique to them. Students will observe different species of birds and how they may look different yet share the key features that make them birds. They will look at the differences between birds of prey and birds that do not hunt for food. Students will also look into why some birds are flightless.

# What are Birds?{.objective .objective1}

In this section the characteristics of bird as animals will be described. The key features, such as being covered in feathers, possessing tallons on their feet, waving wings for flight and lay eggsa with a chalky outershell will be the main focus. By exploring the scene and observing the different examples of birds, students will identify the similarities between all the species of birds.

# Different Types of Birds{.objective .objective2}

This section outlines the different species of birds, the similarities they possess as birds, but the main differences as a different species. This can include, colour of their feathers, size, eggs and diet. By exploring the scene, a discussion about the birds they can see should be encouraged, as well as describing their appearance, highlighting the similarities and differences between the birds spotted.

# Taking Flight{.objective .objective3}

In this section, the mechanism of flight will be described. The ability to fly will be aattributed to the feather covered wings, the hollow lightweight skeleton birds possess, the wing and tail movement. However, why some birds have become flightless will be outlined and linked to the lack of the need due to their adaptation to their habitat.
