The Death of Franz Ferdinand

The scene lets students explore the streets of Sarajevo to learn about the assassination of archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife. Students can explore the scene to learn about the events which unfolded on the 28th of June 1914, discover the assassin, and find out how this event contributed as a cause to the First World War.

Students can learn that Franz Ferdinand was the Archduke of the Austrian-Hungary throne. Students are asked to look closely at the scene and identify how the archduke arrived in Sarajevo.

Students can learn about the three assassination attempts on the archduke’s life and how events unfolded on the day. In this scene students are asked to look closely at the scene and identify the route that was used by the duke’s driver to drive the archduke and his wife to the town hall.

Students can learn about how the death of Franz Ferdinand can be an event that caused the First World War. In this section students are asked to consider what other factors contributed to World War One, including Militarism, Alliances and Imperialism.
