**Scene Overview:**

The scene lets students explore and familiarise themselves with the inside of a food bank. By taking a look at the organisation of a food bank, students will develop an understanding of what services food banks provide, and the growing importance of food banks due to the rising number of people in poverty. The scene will let students appreciate the type of food and non-food items sought after by food banks for redistribution.

# What are Food Banks?{.objective .objective1}

Food banks are charitable organisations run by volunteers driving support for those who may be stuck in poverty. Students will be asked to explore the scene and identify that food banks receive and redistribute food and non-food items.

# What do Food Banks Provide?{.objective .objective2}

This section will explain the various items that food banks collect and provide to those who need it. Students can identify what food items are collected and provided in parcels. They will be asked to identify what non-food items are added to a parcel and look for clues that food banks help with utility bills.

# The Importance of Food Banks{.objective .objective3}

Students will learn about the important role food banks play in supporting those referred to food banks aside from providing parcels and support with utility bills. They should explore the scene and look for clues that suggest the rising importance and need for support from food banks.

Students will also be able to explore the Food Security scene to contextualise why people may use food banks and their importance.

# Volunteering at a Food Bank{.objective .objective4}

Students will explore the scene and be asked to identify the different jobs or tasks that need to happen for a food bank to run. They can be encouraged to think about their skills and how they could help a food bank succeed. They can discuss the differences between customer and internal-facing volunteering opportunities.
