Description

The scene lets students explore a mobile phone and discover the many components that are needed to make it work. Students will consider the raw materials needed to make these components and how the ever-changing consumer needs lead to disposal of outdated technology and replaces with newer more sophisticated and advanced electronics. Students will consider the impact of disposal of electronics have on the build-up of e-waste, pollution, and quarrying.

# The Importance of Electronics{.objective .objective1}

Students will understand how electronics have improved standards of living. Students will be asked to explore the scene and consider the function of a modern mobile phone.

# What is E-Waste?{.objective .objective2}

They will learn about the different components of an electronic device and how they contribute to e-waste production. Students will learn that the ever-changing and advancement in technology leads to consumers regularly updating and changing their electronics, as well as it being a leading cause of e-waste. Students will be asked to explore the scene and identify which components of the mobile phone are likely to become outdated or redundant first. They will be asked to think about what changes to mobile devices leads to older models being disposed of.

# The Impact of E-Waste{.objective .objective3}

Students will learn about that the raw materials used to make components for electronics are non-renewable. Students will be asked to think about which raw materials these components are made from, and which are likely to be toxic or contain precious materials.
