Beethoven

The scene lets students explore the Burg theatre and learn about Beethoven and his music. Here students will look at sheet music from several of Beethoven’s most popular work, but importantly learn about how his style changed due to his decline in hearing.

# Who was Beethoven?{.objective .objective1}

Students will learn about Ludwig van Beethoven. They will learn about where he was born and how he was involved in music from a young age. Students will learn about the rise of Beethoven, how his career was kickstarted in Vienna and how his decline in hearing had a huge impact in his music output but also in the development of his own unique style.

# What wad Beethoven’s Contribution to Music? {.objective .objective2}

Students will be able to listen to some of the compositions Beethoven produced and performed. They will also learn about the impact his declining hearing affected his performances and therefore influenced his style of music compositions later in his carrier.

# What are the Key Characteristics of Beethoven’s Music?{.objective .objective3}

Students will learn that the style of Beethoven’s music was influenced by Mozart to begin with. They will observe that his style changed and became his own mainly due to his hearing loss. Students will consider how his difficulty in hearing was responsible for driving his innovative style of compositions which were vibrant and tempestuous compared to the traditional romantic and subdued classical style.
