The scene lets students explore the site of the Majdanek inspired Concentration camp. Here students will explore and observe the barracks prisoners lived in, the labour they were forced to complete, and the gas chamber used by the Nazis. Students will gain and insight in the life in a concentration camp.

# What was the Holocaust?{.objective .objective1}

Students will learn about the holocaust and the Nazis attempted to do and for many years achieved. They will learn that the Nazis, led by Hitler, persecuted certain groups they deemed did not fit their ‘Aryan race’ ideology, and opposed the Nazi rule. Students will be asked to explore the scene and describe the location of the concentration camp. They will be asked to think about how the prisoners may have been transported their and whether the prisoners knew their destination.

# What Life Like in Concentration Camp? {.objective .objective2}

Students will learn about the conditions prisoners lived in, such as crowded barracks, with poor heating and sanitation. They will learn that prisoners were forced to work long hours and given poor quantities and quality of food, leading to many dying of starvation of disease. Students will learn that many prisoners, men, women, and children were killed in gas chambers. Students will learn that the Nazi German regime had many concentration camps scattered across territories they occupied. Students will be asked to explore the area and identify clues that living conditions were crowded and poor. They will be asked to identify clues they were made to work, and describe the gas chamber used in this camp.

# How were the Camps Liberated?{.objective .objective3}

Students will learn that the camps were liberated by allied forces in Europe and the USA. They will learn that these forces carried out offensive strikes against Nazi forces, discovered many concentration camps in the process, and freed many prisoners that were still alive. Students will learn that a lot of evidence was collected and used in war crime trials against the Nazis, and that the allied offences finally forced the unconditional surrender of the Nazis. Students will be asked to think about how the victims of the Holocaust are remembered. They will be asked to think about and explain why it is important to learn and remember the events of the Holocaust.
