Quecha People of South America

The Quechan people of South America are an indigenous group who live in the Andean highlands, and, or are people who speak the indigenous language of Runasimi. There are around forty-five known Quechan languages with many different dialects spoken. The Quechan people are well adapted to suit a unique high-altitude lifestyle in the mountainous ranges. Here, you can explore a settlement in the mountains and learn all about the Quechuan people and their culture.

# The History of the Quechuan People {.objective .objective1}

The Quechuan people once lived their own unique way of life but were one of the first groups of indigenous people to be conquered by the Inca empire in the 1500s. Here, students can learn about how the Conquistadors force d the Quechuan people to produce crops for the Spanish and discover how forced labour changed the way the in which they lived.

The Quechuan People lived in the Andean Highlands. Students can explore this environment and learn how the people live in a community similar to the ancient Inca system. They can also learn about family roles and responsibilities.

# Quechuan Culture and Conditions {.objective .objective3}

The Quechan religion is a mixture of pre-Columbian and catholic elements, resulting in a belief of supernatural forces that govern everyday life. Students can examine the environment and discover a range of historical artefacts which reveal major life events that are marked by rituals and celebrations
