Banks of the River Po

The scene lets students explore and learn about the River Po and its importance to the Italian economy. Students will survey the location of major cities built along the river and the role the Po plays in industry and agriculture. Through the survey, students will appreciate why some areas have not been built on along the river and even protected as natural parks.

# The River Po{.objective .objective1}

Students will learn about the River Po. They will learn about the physical characteristics of the Po, its origin, and its final destination. Students will be asked to explore the scene and observe the characteristics of the river Po. They will be asked to identify any clues that suggest that the Po has a large drainage source, due to its position at the foothills of the Alps in the Po Valley.

# The Cities{.objective .objective2}

Students will learn about the cities the Po passes through. They will learn about the importance the Po has in the Industrial and agricultural economy of northern Italy. Students will be asked to explore the scene and observe the location of the cities. They will be asked to suggest the purpose of the location of hydroelectric plants in Turin and Milan and why there is lack of development near agricultural land.

# Nature{.objective .objective3}

Students will learn about the natural landscape around the Po and the impact development had. They will learn about the natural reserves and wetlands, and why they have been protected. Students will be asked to explore and identify the protected regions along the Po. They will be asked to identify the lakes that the Po drains into.
