Specialised Cells – Nerve Cell

The scene lets students explore and learn about the Nerve cell as a specialised cell. The model of the cell will allow students to understand the function of the cell and how it is adapted to send electrical impulses to and from the CNS.

# The Function of a Nerve Cell{.objective .objective1}

In this section a description of the function of a nerve cell will be provided. Nerve cells form a network of connections to and from the brain, right across the whole body. Responsible for relaying electrical impulses to and from the CNS, it allows the brain to detect changes and coordinate responses.
Students will be asked to explore the scene and observe the nerve cell. They will be asked to identify how the nerve cell is connected from the brain to the rest of the body. Students will be asked to identify how impulses are transmitted.

# The structure of a Nerve Cell{.objective .objective2}

In this section the structure of a nerve cell will be provided. The key structures and adaptation that allow a nerve cell to carryout its job, such as the cell body and axon will outlined.
Students will be asked to explore the scene and identify how axons are adapted to relay impulses between the body and the brain over a great distance. Students will be able to interact with the cell and move specific structures.
