Description

# Learning objectives

Be able to Describe an Electrolytic Cell{.info}

Be able to Describe the Process of Electrolysis{.info}

The scene takes you within an electrolytic cell and within the process of electrolysis. By exploring the electrolytic cell, students will be able to observe metal and non-metal ions moving towards electrodes while an electric current flows. By interacting with the separate model, they will be able to familiarise themselves with the structure and components of an electrolytic cell.

# What is Electrolysis{.objective .objective1}

- Electrolysis will be described. As a process that relies on electricity, this chemical reaction occurs within an electrolyte solution or molten electrolyte as the electric current decomposes the ionic compound.
- Students will be asked to identify the presence of ions within the electrolyte.

# Electrolytic Cell{.objective .objective2}

- In this section, an electrolytic cell will be described, and the components needed for electrolysis will be outlined.
- Students will be asked to explore the interactive model and correctly identify the components of an electrolytic cell.

# How Electrolysis Works{.objective .objective3}

- The process of how electrolysis works will be described. By using a source of electricity, an electric current is passed through an electrolyte and ions separated to produce neutral metals and non-metals.
- Students will be asked to identify the movement of the positive ions to the cathode and find evidence that an electric current is being conducted.
