Angel Island

Angel Island is located in the San Francisco Bay, California, United States. It is the second-largest island in the bay, spanning approximately 740 acres. In this scene, students can explore part of the island and learn all about its geography and geology.

The island's formation dates back millions of years, with its origins rooted in volcanic activity. Around 10 to 13 million years ago, volcanic eruptions and the accumulation of lava flows and volcanic ash laid the foundation for the island's distinctive geology.

The island experiences a Mediterranean climate characterised by mild, wet winters and moderately warm, dry summers. The surrounding waters of the bay also play a role in moderating the island's temperatures, providing a maritime influence.

Angel Island's varied habitats, including grasslands, woodlands, and coastal areas, provide a home for numerous plant and animal species. As a state park, efforts are made to preserve and protect the island's wildlife.
