**Scene Overview & Key Elements:**

The scene lets students explore and learn about root hair cells as specialised cells. The model of the cell will allow students to understand the function of root hair cells and how they are adapted to absorb water as fast as possible.

The student information is in three sections:

# The Function of Root Hair Cells{.objective .objective1}

- Students will learn about the function of root hair cells. They will learn how root hair cells line the surface of a root and are responsible for absorbing water from soil.
- Students will be asked to explore the scene and observe the activity of the root hair cells. They will be asked to consider the importance of the cell’s location of the root for the absorption of water.

# The Structure of Root Hair Cells{.objective .objective2}

- Students will learn about the features of root hair cells. They will learn about the adaptations root hair cells have for the absorption of water and maintaining the gradient for the diffusion of water.
- Students will be asked to explore the scene and observe the cell’s structure. Students will be asked to identify the structures responsible for the efficient absorption of water. They will be asked to identify clues that root hair cells absorb water.
