Money Maze - How Much Change? (UK)

**Key Elements and Scene Summary**

The scene takes the form of a market maze where students need to negotiate their way through. Throughout the maze, students will need to determine the correct direction at key junctions in the market maze. They are presented with stalls with priced items and how much has been handed over to pay. They simply need to determine the change they would receive. Next to the stall there will be two arrows indicating which way to go. Only one direction will lead to the exit. The other…? A dead end. Calculate the correct change and make your way out.

In the final challenge, students will see a shopping list. Simply calculate the total spend and change to be made based on what is paid. Move the movable coins to the board.

# Making Change{.objective .objective1}

The idea of calculating the difference between values of money should be introduced. An important part of making change when we pay for things.

Students should be encouraged to negotiate the market maze by working out the change that is due from the value of an item and the money paid.

# How Much Change?{.objective .objective2}

Once through the maze, consolidation of the importance of addition and subtraction should help with the next task.

Students should complete the final shopping quiz using the movable money. From the cost, to the money paid, make change and place the correct combination of coins on the board.
