Description

**Key Elements and Scene Summary**

The scene presents students with a changing landscape where the scale changes to create the illusion of a change in distance. As the landscape changes, the number line changes. With the linear transition across three different scales (1s, 10s, 100s), students observe and explore a number line, where they need to deduce, estimate and add numbers on the number line. Here they will strengthen their number skills, by counting, observing order and understanding that numbers get bigger as they move along the number line.

# Learning Objectives

1. Know numbers have value, order and size.{.info}
2. Identify the missing numbers in a number line.{.info}
3. Use numbers lines to estimate numbers.{.info}

# Count; What Next?{.objective .objective1}

- Moving along the number line, students reinforce their counting skills and understanding that numbers have an order, and that they get bigger as they move along the number line.
- Using their counting skills, students need to guess what number comes next to fill in the parts of the number line that have been left blank.

# One, Two, Skip a Few{.objective .objective2}

- In this part, students use their addition skills to calculate the next numbers along the number line.
- By adding either 2, 4, or 6, students need to write a series of numbers that follow each other from 0. Much like skip counting.

# Guess the Number{.objective .objective3}

- Number lines may have bigger scales, such as 10, 20, 30, or 100, 200, 300. Students are encouraged to estimate the numbers that may occur in between.
- Students are tasked to observe the arrows pointing in between numbers on the number line. They need to observe the arrows point in the middle of the two numbers used as examples. By observing they are in the middle, they need to establish the number must be the middle number.
