Description

The key difference between prokaryotes and eukaryotes is that eukaryotes have their DNA enveloped within the nucleus. They also contain other membrane-bound organelles, such as the mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum.

Eukaryotes have a variety of organelles that perform specialised functions, essential to maintaining cell homeostasis (see below.)

Eukaryotes can be either single cellular organisms (amoebae and yeast) or multicellular organisms, such as plants, animals and fungi.
