This scene takes the form of Air Strip One. Within Air Strip One there is an apartment block and balcony that can be explored to help students learn about what life could be like for someone living in a totalitarian society. In addition to this, this scene contains a street surrounding the apartment block, filled with propaganda to reveal the words the government gave to society which are further surrounded by the four ministries that can be identified within the novel of 1984.

# Who is Big Brother?{.objective .objective1}
In this section there is a description of the theme totalitarianism. In this activity students are asked to enter the scene to explore the apartment block. Students should be able explain why the 1984 society can be defined as totalitarian by using specific examples from the scene.
# Who is Julia?{.objective .objective2}
In this section there is description of the four ministries and how Julia meets Winston in the Ministry of Truth. In this activity students can investigate the city streets to understand the messages from the government.
# What is propaganda and why is it so effective?{.objective .objective3}
In this section students can view the different messages that are sent to the citizens and analyse the use of propaganda. Your students should explore the power of the government’s messages on the characters of Winston and Julia.
