Description

The scene lets students explore a scene and observe a chemical reaction taking place. The cartoon inspired scene models fireworks being set off and the students can observe a range of changes that take place during a chemical reaction.

# Learning objectives

Be able to describe what a chemical reaction is{.info}

Be aable to use observable evidence to identify a chemical change{.info}

# Chemical or Physical Change{.objective .objective1}

In this section physical and chemical changes are compared. The differences re outlined with examples of both types of changes, with the key emphasis of chemical changes being opermanent and produce a new substace, while physical changes can be returned to their original state, and that it is the same substance even when a change is observed. A discussion should be prompted, and students should be encouraged to describe the physical and chemical changes compared.

# What is a Chemical Reaction{.objective .objective2}

In this section, a description of a chemical reaction will be outlined. The key points that two or more reactants need to be involved and that a new substance, a product, is always produced when a chemical reaction occurs. Chemical reactions can be illustrated by suing word ecuations.

# Evidence for a Chemical Reaction{.objective .objective3}

In this section, the evidence that can be observed during a chemical reaction are outlined. Qualitative data includes the production of sound, heat, light, colour change and the production of gas will be the basis of the student review of experiments carried out and those observed in this scene with the exploding fireworks.
