Human Impact on the Earth - Pollution

by Avantis World
This resource is only available as part of a pack

Description

The scene lets students explore the environment and observe examples of human activity. They will observe how farming, use of power stations, waste management has contributed to land, air, and water pollution, but importantly how the rapid increase in the human population has led to a rapid increase in pollution. In addition, they will consider the impact combustion of fossil fuels has been the leading cause of the greenhouse effect.

# Learning objectives

1: Be able to describe the types of pollution{.info}

2: Be able to Describe the cause of pollution{.info}

3: Be able to explain the impact of pollution on the environment{.info}

# Water Pollution{.objective .objective1}

In this section, a description of water pollution will be provided. Farming practice has led to the process of eutrophication. Excess run off of fertilisers in water causes algal bloom and the eventual depletion of oxygen, which is the cause of the death of aquatic ecosystems near farmland. In the scene farming run off can be observed and its effect illustrated.

# Air Pollution{.objective .objective2}

In this section, a description of air pollution will be provided. Air pollution and how greenhouse gases contribute to poor air quality will be outlined as the cause due to human activity as well as natural causes. Exploring the scene, the activity from the power station will illustrate the impact of human activity and combustion of fossil fuels.

# Land Pollution{.objective .objective3}

In this section, Land Pollution will be described and how human waste production is the main cause. Dumping of non-recyclable waste into landfills and the destruction of habitats to clear land for landfills and make room for waste management will be outlined.
