Cook's Voyage - Mapping Australia

James Cook was born on the 7th of November 1728 in Marton, North Riding of Yorkshire, England. He is famously known as a British explorer, navigator, and captain in the British Royal Navy. Despite not being formally educated, Cook became capable of practicing and learning mathematics, astronomy, and charting his exploration upon his Endeavour. In this scene, you will be able to visit the Endeavour and learn about James Cook’s three famous voyages!

# The First Voyage{.objective .objective1}

James Cook was commissioned to command a scientific voyage to the Pacific Ocean in 1768. Here students can learn about the conditions cook faced on his first journey and learn of how he made his first recording of the direct observation of Aboriginal Australians at Brush Island on 23rd April

# The Second Voyage {.objective .objective2}

In 1772, Cook lead another scientific voyage onboard the HMS Resolution. Here students can learn about how Cook travelled across the South Atlantic and consider why Cook continued to write down and create a map of countries.

# The Third voyage{.objective .objective3}

Students can observe Cooks third voyage and learn about how he arrived in Hawaii in 1779. Students can also explore the scene and learn about what Cook saw when he arrived in Australia. Students are asked to consider why it is important to learn about Cooks Mapping of Australia in the twenty-first century.
