The religion of Islam began over 1,400 years ago in Arabia in Southwest Asia. According to its teaching, the Angel Jibril (Gabriel) first revealed the Quran (Allah’s Word) to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). In this scene students can explore the city of Baghdad and learn about the Golden Age of Islam and the advancements that were made in science, mathematics, and medicine.

# When was the Golden Age of Islam? {.objective .objective1}
In this scene students can learn about the caliphate and how the Abbad dynasty rose to power in 750BCE. In this section students are asked to enter the scene and describe the environment. Which buildings can they identify? What do they notice about the shape of the city?
# What was it like to live during the Golden Age? {.objective .objective2}
In this scene students can learn about the round city and how at the centre was a mosque, the caliphates house, and the House of Wisdom.
In this section students are asked to enter the scene and discover which materials were used for buildings, what jobs were available and why markets and businesses were built outside of the city’s walls.
# What happened during the Golden Age of Islam? {.objective .objective3}
In this scene students can learn about the inventions of the decimal counting systems and anaesthesia. They can also learn about algebra and the tessellation of shapes.
Students are asked to enter the scene and explore further technological advancements.
