Welcome to the red planet, Avantimos! Avantimos is inhabited by small green mischievous Aliens in yellow suits! Your students’ mission is to explore the planet and describe the Avantis Aliens using the prefix of **un-**.

# Objectives:

1: Understand how the prefix un- can change the meaning of a word.{.info}

2: Identify words with the prefix un-.{.info}


# The Prefix of un-{.objective .objective1}

Students will be introduced to the prefix of un- and how it changes the meaning of a word to mean the opposite.

They will be encouraged to look for words using the prefix of un- placed in the scene.



# The Avantimos Aliens{.objective .objective2}

The alien characters are placed around the scene and display characteristics that match the movable word flags. Encourage students to describe the aliens and discuss what they might be doing.

Students should read the word flags and decide which Avantimos Alien is most suited to each one. They can move the word flag to each alien and discuss with their peers why they have chosen each one.



The following words are placed in the scene as word flags and can have the flags displaying 'Un' applied:

- Friendly

- Tidy

- Helpful

- Happy

- Tie

flags can be applied to the following aliens:

- **Friendly**: Alien waving at Eric.

- **Unfriendly**: Alien turning away from Eric.

- **Tidy**: Alien fixing Eric’s rocket has a tidy toolbox.

- **Untidy**: Alien with an untidy toolbox.

- **Helpful**: Alien fixing Eric’s rocket or the alien tying another alien’s shoelace.

- **Unhelpful**: Alien throwing dirt back into the hole another alien is digging.

- **Happy**: Alien spinning in circles, smiling.

- **Unhappy**: Alien with its head dipped near the happy alien.

- **Tie/Untie**: Alien tying or untying another alien’s shoelace.
