Question and Exclamation Marks

Eric the Exclamation dragon has returned from his trip to the planet of Avantimos and is being interviewed by Quentin, the Question Mark Dragon, for the local news. Eric is eager to share his experiences with the viewers but needs your students’ help to recall the events and punctuate his sentences!

This scene is set in a television studio with a walkthrough story corridor to allow students to recap Eric’s trip to Avantimos. As well as interactive tasks, the scene will feature text and audio to encourage reading and listening skills.

# Objectives:

3: Recall a sequence of events.{.info}



# Using Question Marks{.objective .objective1}

Question marks are placed at the end of a sentence and are used to show a question. Often, a question will begin with a wh- word such as who, what, where or when.

Students will see a teleprompter screen behind the characters displaying a series of sentences. There are interactive question marks found in Quentin’s bag which should be moved to the sentences which are questions.



# Using Exclamation Marks{.objective .objective2}

Exclamation marks are used at the end of sentences to show something is exciting, powerful or forceful. Using them can change the meaning to a sentence and create emphasis.

Students should be directed to go through the story corridor behind the curtain. There will be three sections of text accompanied by an audio reading. They will retrieve interactive exclamation marks and move them to the correct place in the sections of the text.
