# Regular Vs Irregular Plural Spellings{.objective .objective1}

Students can read through this section which will outline the rules of making nouns plural. They will be introduced to the idea that some nouns are irregular and do not follow these spelling rules.

Encourage your students to observe the unusual features of the grocery store to connect the idea that the irregular plural nouns housed here do not follow convention when it comes to spelling.

# How Irregular Plural Nouns Change{.objective .objective2}

This section provides scene guidance for exploring the aisles and spotting irregular plural spellings.

Aisle one contains single and multiple magazines featuring the following nouns as front covers:

- X4 Woman
- X4 Women
- X4 Man
- X4 Men
- X4 Goose
- X4 Geese
- X4 Tooth
- X4 Teeth
- X4 Foot
- X4 Feet

Students should move the magazines to the correct shelf location marked by ‘Singular’ or ‘Plural’ and sectioned into vowels ‘A’, ‘I’, ‘O’ and ‘U’. Encourage them to say the words aloud and determine which vowel sound changes when it becomes plural.

Aisle two contains examples of nouns which do not change their spelling when they become plural. Students will be asked to identify all the irregular nouns they see.

The examples included in the scene are:

- Deer
- Sheep
- Fish
- Rice
- Tuna
- Salmon
- Trout

Aisle three contains the nouns which do not follow a rule when they become plural. Students should pick up the objects and place them back in their designated labelled shelf or cart.
