Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., renowned hero of the American Civil Rights movement, is perhaps best remembered for his advocacy of non-violent protest and civil disobedience as the best means of achieving social change, even in the face of brutal and murderous repression. He led the United States into a new (if still imperfect) era of equal rights for its citizens and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his work. This statue honoring him stands outside the San Bernardino City Hall.
