Digraph Train

**Objectives:**

- Understand what a digraph is.{.info}
- Recognise the graphemes of the vowel digraphs: ai/ay; oi/oy{.info}
- Identify the correct spellings of words using the digraphs of ai/ay; oi/oy{.info}

The Dragonville Digraph Train appears to be going way too fast today! One of the dragons has misjudged his driving skill and lost control of the train. Jump aboard and solve the puzzles in each carriage to slow the train down!

This scene allows students to explore four carriages containing interactive spelling puzzles for them to solve using the digraphs: ai, ay, oi, and oy.

# The ‘oy’ Carriage{.objective .objective1}

In this carriage, students will be tasked with moving the word boxes to match the character or object. The following words are included:

- **Boy**
- **Toy**
- **Royal**
- **Oyster**

# The ‘oi’ Carriage{.objective .objective2}

In this carriage, students will be presented with images of the following:

- A coil of rope
- Boiling water (saucepan or kettle with steam)
- Coins
- Oil

They will move the correct digraph to each object, choosing between ‘oi’ and ‘oy’.

# The ‘ai’ Carriage{.objective .objective3}

In this carriage, students will fill in the gaps in the words by placing the correct digraph (choice between ‘ay’ or ‘ai’). The following words will be included:

- Clay
- Ray
- Play
- Day

# The ‘ay’ Carriage{.objective .objective4}

In this carriage, students will fill in the gaps in the words by placing the correct digraph (choice between ‘ay’ or ‘ai’). The following words will be included:

- Rain
- Rainbow
- Chain
- Stain
- Train

Students can then reach the train driver who will be frantically putting on the brakes!
