The Schlossplatz (Palace Square) in Coburg has been created in 1849 and designed with the help of renowned Prussian architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel and gardener Peter Joseph Lenné. It is surrounded by Ehrenburg Palace, the State Theater, Palais Edinburgh, arcades leading to the Hofgarten and former stables. In the middle of the square there is a rondel with a monument of Duke Ernest I.
