The British Military Occupation authorities ordered the construction of this wall and the oberlisk in 1947. The dates at the foot of the obelisk are significant. 1943 is when the camp became a detention center of Jews. 1940 was when it became a prisoner of war camp, and 1945 was when it was liberated. The inscription on the wall is, in many languages, "To the memory of all those who died in this place."
