The granite Legion bridge runs from the border of the old and new towns, the Narodni street and the National Theater on the right side of the river to Ujezd, one of the old gates, on the left side. It was built at the turn of the last century to replace the Francis I Chain Bridge. The style seems to include both neo-Baroque and Art Nouveau on the 16m wide and 343,5 meter-long bridge. Halfway across is the Sharpshooter's Island (Strelecky Ostrov) where you find a cheap hostel, an expensive restaurant and the fantastic outdoor cinema shows from June through September. The Island boasts splendid views and benches for a good stroll. Note the lovely partly-guilded lamp-posts on the bridge and the good view of the lock for the river-traffic.
