Description

Cuttlefish belong to the cephalopods. The are regarded as some of the most intelligent invertebrates. In addition to the intelligence, they are known for their complex visual communication that involves changes in the skin color, its texture, body position and movement. By combining these elements cuttlefish can signal tens clearly defined signs or ā€˛words". Mantle fin is normally used for swimming. Cuttlefish are predators, slowly approaching their prey and then pulling two long tentacles, which capture the prey. The salivary glands are often modified into the poison glands used to paralyze their prey. The well known cuttlebone is subcutaneous rest of the calcareous shell.
