Description

The anatomy of the earthworm is among the most studied of all invertebrates. As a result, its parts are very well documented and understood. It is known that that the body starts on the prostomium (point near the mouth) and ends on the anus. Divided by segments, the body is covered in setae and has a clear ventral surface covered by pores. About one-third of the way down the body of the worm from the mouth towards the anus is a thick cylindrical collar ‒ the clitellum. This structure is involved in reproduction.

It has a closed circulatory system, a nervous system and also a secretory system.

The digestive system is composed by pharynx, seminal vesicles, esophagus, crop, gizzard, intestine and finally the anus.
