Description

Shrimps belong to Decapods (Decapoda) and live in the seas, rivers and lakes. The head is fused with the thorax in cephalothorax. Abdominal legs (pleopods) in shrimps have hairs and are used for swimming. Females use pleopods to carry eggs. Shrimps belong to one of the most important parts of the food chain and they serve as food for many species. Most species of shrimps are omnivorous, except eg. species that are specialized in cleaning the body, mouths, and gills of marine fish, even fish predators. They, however, do not eat a cleaning shrimp as this, at the first glance very risky service, is valued by the predators more.
