Description

Peregrine Falcon inhabits an extremely large area – it lives, in fact, in all continents except of Antarctica. It appears in all climatic zones from tropical areas to the tundra. Due to its adaptability, in the past, up to 75 subspecies were recognized. Nowadays, it is only 19. All of them look like similarly. In the 60th of the past century, overall european population of Peregrine Falcons was seriously threatened by using of toxic pesticides, nevertheless, currently, such substancies are prohibited and then, the population rises to stabilize itself. The highest european density of Peregrine Falcons can be found in Spain, France and Great Britain.



Falcons are able to nest on the rocks, buildings or trees as well as in the old nests of birds of prey. They can prey on various vertebrates, but many of them specialize on the pidgeons and doves. In pursuit their prey, they are also able to reach the velocity of 250 km per hour in the flight.
